Blue Eye
Blue Eye was launched over 20 years ago and is now the best-selling product in its category. Blue Eye has also won the award for Senior Product of the Year in the Swedish Health Awards. Blue Eye is a big favorite and we will take a closer look at all the ingredients and how they work.
Blue Eye original contains a unique combination of lutein, vitamins, antioxidants and concentrated Swedish blueberries, which are known to promote normal eye function and vision. Blueberries are also rich in anthocyanins, which are powerful antioxidants that protect eye cells against oxidative stress. This helps to support the light-sensitive cells in the retina, which in turn supports retinal function in the eye. Blue Eye is designed for adults and seniors who want to support eye health with a focus on the macula.
The yellow spot
The macula, also known as the macula, is a structure located in the center of the retina of the eye. It is a small but crucial part of the eye that has a major impact on our visual acuity. Its main role is to help us distinguish details such as small letters when we read, see facial features or drive a car, for example. The macula is extra sensitive to light and needs to be protected from harmful blue light (for example, computer, mobile phone, TV and other screens) and oxidative stress, but it is also very sensitive to age-related changes. As we age, the body and eyes undergo changes that can eventually affect our vision. The macula is negatively affected when levels of important nutrients, such as lutein and zeaxanthin, decrease.
Age-related macular degeneration
The most common cause of central vision loss is age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in people in the Western world, and the disease often begins after the age of 50. AMD involves changes in the macula that negatively affect vision. There are two different types of AMD, wet and dry. Dry AMD is the most common and develops slowly as the macula gradually loses its functions, while wet AMD is more uncommon and severe. Wet AMD is caused by abnormal blood vessels that leak fluid and blood under the retina. Age-related eye problems often have several underlying mechanisms, and research shows that it is often related to a lack of important nutrients, damage or breakdown of cells in the macula, but also the formation of the age pigment lipofuscin, which can develop as a result of free radicals.
Blue Eye contains important nutrients that contribute to normal vision and is supplemented with a variety of powerful antioxidants to protect the eye against free radicals and oxidative stress.

Active ingredients
Blue Eye is a product with carefully selected ingredients that support eye health. Blue Eye consists of a base of Swedish blueberries and lutein in combination with vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants. We take a closer look at the effects of the ingredients for the eye and vision!
Lutein and zeaxanthin
Just like the rest of the body, the eye and macula require certain specific nutrients to function optimally. The macula contains high amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin and is completely dependent on these substances to function. Lutein is a nutrient and antioxidant related to carotene and is naturally found in orange and yellow vegetables and flowers. Blue Eye contains both lutein and zeaxanthin extracted from organic marigold, which contains high levels of these substances.
Lutein and zeaxanthin are natural antioxidants that act as "built-in sunglasses" for the macula. They filter out blue light and neutralize harmful free radicals that can damage the eye. These substances also help maintain visual acuity and reduce the risk of age-related eye diseases, such as macular degeneration.
Blueberries - a super berry for vision
Blue Eye contains extracts from blueberries, which are well known for their positive effects on vision and eye health. These Nordic superberries are hand-picked in Swedish forests and are packed with many different fantastic nutrients. Swedish blueberries contain a blend of powerful antioxidants such as anthocyanins, vitamins and minerals. Blueberries that grow in Sweden's pristine forests contain significantly higher levels of active substances than cultivated blueberries thanks to the climate we have here. Studies show that blueberries are beneficial for both the eye and vision, with documented effects on visual acuity and retinal function. Retinal function refers to how well the retina in the eye works. The retina is a thin tissue on the inside of the back of the eyeball that converts light into electrical signals that are sent to the brain via the optic nerve. Retinal function is crucial for our vision and affects light and dark vision, color vision, sharpness and focus, and the width of the field of vision.
Powerful antioxidants and vitamins
Blue Eye contains a variety of antioxidants of various kinds to protect the body and the eye against oxidative stress. Protecting the eyes against free radicals is very important to prevent eye problems as the eyes are exposed to extreme amounts of free radicals all the time due to the different types of light we surround ourselves with in our everyday lives, but oxygen also damages the eyes. The eyes consume a lot of antioxidants when they are neutralized. In addition to lutein and zeaxanthin, Blue Eye also contains rutin and quercetin from natural buckwheat extract, which are important for microcirculation in the eye. We also have vitamins and minerals that the eye needs to function optimally.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is essential for eye health and plays several important roles in supporting vision and protecting the eyes. We have chosen to use natural beta-carotene as the source of vitamin A in Blue Eye as it gives the body the ability to only convert as much beta-carotene into vitamin A as it needs. This means there is no risk of getting too much vitamin A from beta-carotene.
Vitamin A is important for the eyes in several ways. Among other things, it is a key component of rhodopsin, a light-sensitive protein in the retina that is necessary for us to see in the dark. A deficiency in vitamin A can cause night blindness (the inability to see well in dim light). Vitamin A also helps maintain the structure and clarity of the cornea, which is important for protecting the front part of the eye. The vitamin plays a role in producing and maintaining a healthy tear film, which prevents dry and irritated eyes. Many eye drops for dry eyes therefore contain vitamin A to support tear production and lubricate the eye. Finally, vitamin A is also important for all mucous membranes in the body, including the eyes.
Vitamin B2
Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is also an important vitamin for the eye as it is involved in several different enzyme systems that help neutralize free radicals and protect the eyes from oxidative stress.
Vitamin C
As mentioned above, the eyes are exposed to high levels of oxygen and light, making them particularly susceptible to oxidative stress. Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals that can damage eye cells and tissues, helping to protect the retina and other parts of the eye. Vitamin C also strengthens blood vessel walls, which is important for maintaining healthy blood flow to the retina and macula.
Zinc
Zinc is a mineral that is needed for eye health for several reasons. The macula itself contains a lot of zinc where it helps maintain cell function. Zinc also helps transport vitamin A from the liver to the retina, where it is used to form rhodopsin (which is necessary for night vision). Without enough zinc, vitamin A cannot be utilized optimally. Zinc is also a cofactor for enzymes needed for the body's own production of antioxidants that protect the cells in the eye against oxidative stress.
Selenium
Selenium is an essential trace element (mineral) that plays several important roles in supporting eye health, primarily through its antioxidant properties and its collaboration with other nutrients to protect the eyes from damage and disease. Selenium's antioxidant effects help protect the various tissues of the eye from damage that can be caused by free radicals. Selenium also works with vitamins E and C to create a powerful defense.
