You've probably heard that beauty comes from within, but think how true it is. If you take care of the body on the inside, you will get it again on the outside. When you take care of yourself, both mentally and physically, you both look better and have a beautiful radiance! Because surely it shows on a person if they care about their own health, or not? Beautiful shiny hair, smooth skin with a nice glow or strong, healthy nails cannot be achieved by simply applying creams, oils, shampoos and the like from the outside. It primarily requires that these parts of the body be nourished from the inside.
Nourishment for the hair
For healthy, thick and shiny hair, specific nutrients are needed, does that sound logical? When the body is low on vitamins and minerals, priority is given to the most important functions such as our organs. Hair, skin and even nails can therefore be negatively affected if the body lacks nutrients that strengthen these particular areas. The hair above all needs biotin, zinc, silicon, sulfur (MSM), selenium and amino acids to grow and feel good. Since the hair is in the skin, it is also important to take care of your skin in order to have nice, healthy hair.
Nourishment for the skin
The skin is the body's largest organ and acts as your ultimate barrier to the outside world. The skin is an important protection against viruses, bacteria and the sun's rays. The skin helps you maintain the right body temperature and stores both fluid and fat, which means that the body does not dry out. When we talk about nutrition for the skin, maybe you think of the face specifically? Yes, it is often the face we talk about when we talk about skin care. The skin is complex and easily becomes unbalanced at times. In autumn and winter, many people experience that the skin becomes dry, rough and dull if you compare it to summer time when the skin feels supple, has a glow and maybe even a nice tan. But giving the skin the right nutrition from the inside obviously affects the skin of the whole body, not just the face.
Some of the most important nutrients for the skin are vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, silicon, zinc, omega-3, omega-6 (GLA) and amino acids. Since we are all different, we also have slightly different needs depending on genetics, environment, lifestyle etc. Maybe you have completely normal skin with no worries and thus you don't need to put extra focus there. Or maybe you have very dry or very oily skin and need help to balance it with the right nutrition but of course also with the right skin care in the form of creams, serums and oils adapted to your specific needs. AND don't forget to drink lots of water! The skin is dependent on moisture and without liquid you easily become dry and wrinkled. Water, water, water!
Nutrition for the nails
The nutrition we talked about above for hair and skin also strengthens the nails. It is for this reason that many dietary supplements are aimed at all three parts, because they need roughly the same type of nutrition. In a sense, the nails are the least complicated as they mainly need minerals such as zinc, silicon, sulfur and selenium.
Beauty from the inside out
Now we've gone through which nutrients benefit hair, skin and nails, but what should you eat then? Fatty fish, nuts and seeds, avocados, cold-pressed oils such as flaxseed oil or evening primrose oil, fruits, vegetables, berries, whole grains, root vegetables and legumes are examples of foods that strengthen hair, skin and nails (and provide many other health benefits as well). If you feel that an extra boost is needed for hair, skin and nails, there are many customized nutritional supplements that strengthen these areas with quick effect. However, food and nutritional supplements must be combined with good products for the outside. Find products that suit your hair, skin and nails. A tip is to get help from your hairdresser to find good hair products that suit your hair and to consult with a skin therapist about what type of skin care products your skin feels good about. You can easily take care of your nails yourself with a nice nail oil and, if necessary, strengthening diet and/or nutritional supplements, but it can also be good to visit a nail salon every now and then for extra flair.
