Epsom salt – with roots in England
The name “Epsom” comes from the English spa town of the same name. Epsom salt was first produced in 1694 from the mineral springs in the town of Epsom. The springs were discovered by a farmer in 1618, who noticed that despite the prevailing drought, his animals refused to drink the water from the spring. When the water was tested, it was found to contain the bitter-tasting substance magnesium sulfate, which was then attributed to a number of health benefits.
Epsom then became a famous health resort during the 17th and 18th centuries, where people came from far and wide thanks to the discovery of this salt. Originally, Epsom salt was extracted by boiling down the water that flowed from the mountains in the village, but now Epsom salt is produced from salt mines. Elixir Epsom salt consists of magnesium sulfate that is extracted from salt mines in Germany. The salt is processed and purified to a 100% pure magnesium salt.
Magnesium salt
Epsom salt consists of magnesium sulfate, which in turn consists of the three elements magnesium, sulfur and oxygen. When the salt is mixed with water, the salt dissolves and free ions of these substances are released. Our Epsom salt consists of 100% magnesium sulfate of the highest purity together with natural essential oils from chamomile, sage and bergamot.
